I feel like my son won’t never speak

He’s a sweet 9 year old autistic boy he has improved socialising a bit and communicating non verbally ,i few PECS is not really helping to make him speak ,he’s also stubborn and won’t potty train .. i fee defeated .. is there any more help than his school?

Is he in a special school?

Are you a working mum?

Does he have siblings to copy them and learn imitation?

I have a non.verbal 5 year old boy and legt my career to devote my 12 hr a day for him to help him.....

The mother is the best helper...

If he has siblings...it would help him sicialise...learn...etc

Have you looked into ABA/PRT?

Please don't guilt trip working mothers of children with special needs. This is not the 1950s.

To the OP: My DS only got PECS at the point that he started speaking. Sometimes the issue with communication is actual communication.

And becoming continent can only happen when the neurological signals and responses, as well as the appropriate behaviors, have developed. For a child with autism, there are lots of tiny steps that you might not even appreciate to becoming clean and dry (and lots of steps backwards if this takes them out of their comfort zone)

Look at a more sophisticated form of communication like snap+core from tobii dynavox (half price I think at the moment). An iPad is a great incentive to interact and communicate and you could make the device solely for communication. Pecs cards are not very good for anything other than simple requesting imo
