Got through the double doors and the screaming started! Stupid receptionist tried talking to him. Got him into a big room just long enough for ds2 to start playing with the trains there. Screaming got worse and he was clawing at the door, so took him to a small room- ds2 joined in because he wanted to play with the trains! Screaming continued so OT suggested she came to see me at home. She helped me get him out to the car, as soon as we got outside the door ds1 was perfectly happy. DS2 meanwhile was screaming "I want to play with the trains at the hospital" and continued to scream that for the next 45 minutes. OT said "how do you cope" followed by "when's your baby due?" And so we came home.

The joys of autism. How often do they have to see a paed for the statement? Our review is coming up and there's no way on this planet ds1 will go into the CDC now (where all the paed appointments are). This was a second scremaing visit- I thought the last one (over 6 months ago) was a one off - but obviously not!

Oh honey. What can I say?

heartinthecountry · 20/09/2004 15:44

Oh Jimjams "how do you cope?" does spring to mind. Wish I had more to offer than just virtual sympathy.

(Hope that doesn't sound patronising..... )

Don't suppose there is any chance the paed could visit you at home?

Jimjams · 20/09/2004 15:49

I don't think paeds do home visits! It's all theoretical really as I haven't seen ours in ages (thank god he's an alcoholic, drink drives and mumbles incomprehenibly!) I could probably see them at the main hospital if I had to. At least we don't have any more hearing tests etc coming up.

Ah well at least the OT is coming to see me at home!

they should be able to look at his reports (the paed i mean) for the statement because not much has changed plus the reports off other professionals should point to how things are going

sorry he hates the CDc but I have the same reaction near ours Wink

heartinthecountry · 20/09/2004 20:52

I don't suppose they do Jimjams (home visits that is) but wouldn't it make life easier if they did? [wry smile emoticon] although it sounds like the less time yours is on the road the better .

maddiemo · 20/09/2004 20:57

Our paed sends his most recent report to the review. Review was June, report from last October.
We see the paed once a year, but some of my friends children have been discharged despite having fairly severe needs.
Perhaps you could give paed an update without ds1 being present. I know that sounds strange but the paed does not really do anything with them. Or at least they don't here.

Jimjams · 20/09/2004 21:05

ROFL HITC- I recently had a dream that the paed did my c-section and when I told dhhe said "don't tell me he left a whiskey bottle inside" I much prefer not to take them maddiemo- I did cartwheels when ds1 had to miss his hige assessment discussion (10 adults in the room talking about him) because he had chickenpox.

Can the paed. not visit ds at school?
The language unti that dd attends has it's own paed. (well not exactly "own" but he does see all of the unit children) who visits the unit once a year to check on progress.
Just a thought!

Agree with Maddiemoo, I have been to Paed appts without DS and he now asks me if I want to bring him or not. Sometimes I think its important for him to see DS but other times we just sit and talk about him. We also go to Out Patients in local hosp, CDC booted us out once he turned 5 and transferred to the school service, even though he wasn't at school! The OT etc can certainly come to you, mine did after a disastrous visit with DD in tow too. Any news from Soc Svs BTW? Just thinking ahead for arrival of DS3, half term etc. I think I will start another thread about something interesting on respite I got the other day.....
