Toddler size school uniform! Where can I get it!

My DD starts school this September but I am at a loss when it comes to buying her uniform. She is in size 12-18 months or sometimes 18-24 month clothes!

The school is great, very understanding and realise I won't be able to get the proper uniform with school emblem etc., but I would still like her to have as near as damn it!

It comprises of: white polo shirt, red cardi, grey trousers. There of course are other things but these are my main concern!

I am on a tight budget and as my girl has vomiting problems and apart from that is very messy (her "mental age" is around 2) I need to get several of each so quantity is more important than quality! In other words the cheaper the better! But any ideas may help, even if not cheap - I don't know what's available after all, so any ideas are welcome.

She has a red coat which the principle told me is fine for the uniform (she grows VERY slowly so it will do for ages yet...) and needs black shoes but I hope to God Meeks have some suitable as she has very wide feet...I just need to get those main 3 things sorted, cheaply and preferably on-line (2 pre-schoolers, 1 SN nuff said?!!) and I will feel a lot less stress! Still lots of stress, but less IYSWIM...Thanks in advance...

Mothercare start their school stuff at 2-3yrs which is not great but is a start.

Not especially cheap but toddler-sized polo shirts
Next have a fleecey cardie thing here and some grey joggers here.
La Redoute have dark grey cords and a hooded cardi.

will keep looking - tbh I think the best thing is to keep your eyes open for non-school clothes (boys' grey combats, random red baby cardies etc) in the right size...

I've found these polo shirts but they are american. They work out at £4-£7 a shirt approx
here

or here from Amazon (bit more expensive.. approx £9)
here

There is a red cardi in 12month size
here

Actually, if you don't mind buying from America, that first site might be your best bet, although maybe clarify sizes with a US mumsnetter.. I think 2T is 18month size since on one site it appeared as the catagory after 9-12months.

Thanks for info! It all seems rather expensive so far but I guess if that's all there is available I will have to just do it. Ideally though, I am thinking Ethel Austin prices!!!

Please keep ideas coming, it is very hard to shop with the two of them and I don't fancy trawling through millions of shops to find the right stuff!

Flippin eck adamadamum, that uniform policy sounds very restrictive when you have size issues as well as SN with your child. Good luck with your search, I know a lot of the main shops only start at age 3-4. But... I bet she looks damn cute in it!

theheadgirl · 04/08/2007 21:51

Sorry, just read your OP - the school aren't after all being restrictive are they

I got plain black Ts for age 1-2 from a local T-shirt printer/embroider , the sort that do "work logo" or sports club work.
Might be a sourse for polo shirts or even a red sweat top/ cardi.

www.polo-shirts.co.uk/Kids+Clothing
they do a 2 y/olds polo and red flease jacket.

www.style-biz.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=POLO/PENTCHILD
bit more expensive but has good size info.

www.promotional-store.com/hfftr57fcx56/im099/catalogue.html
looks like exactly the polo you want but no sign of prices. click kids, then preschool then look for baby toddler polos.

Ladybird list an age 2 in their boys elasticated charcoal school trousers(£4). My local Woolworths dont seem to have them though(I tried to get some in the largest size for my very tall sn child who cant cope with zips etc.

I had exactly the same problem as DD was that size when she started school. The smallest polo shirts I found were sold in Boots (a large branch) but they only seemed to stock them at this time of year.
Mothercare & Ladybird do small sizes in trousers but often don't stock many of them. Good luck!

Hi, I have had a similar problem with my DD1, she to is very small, shes about a Next size 2-3, but is sometime in 18/24 mths, i have just been and got alot of her uniform from m&s they start from age 3 but there sizing is tiny i bought my DD age 4!!, not bad priced either as it was 3 for 2, i bought, 3 cardi's, 2 skirts 3 pretty blouses and a pinafore, and it came to £42. and i think if you order online its free delivery.

Hope this helps.
