Advice on secondary schools in Berkshire or Bucks

Our DS has a diagnosis of ASD. I applied for an EHCP through our local council but they refused to assess him. Waiting for their letter, hopefully it will explain why. Not sure if we will appeal as we are running out of time. He needs to start Y9 in September. He's currently at a large mainstream school where he's made some friends, been bullied by other kids, some teachers don't like him (they don't understand his needs) and he would prefer to be at a school with smaller classrooms. We are looking at an independent special school or a non selective independent school which supports kids on the high end of the spectrum, however, most are prohibitively expensive. Anyone know much about Claires Court in Maidenhead? Do they have good pastoral support? Would even consider a boarding school. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
