Could anyone give me some advice please. My dd attends a mainstream primary, she has an EHCP. Before our last annual review, school said they could no longer meet her needs, so we found another school and are currently waiting to see if she will get her place there. There is a possibility it may not be the mainstream school we named, as SEN team are considering local special school. My question is, if I de register my child and take them out of school will it affect them getting there new school place? I don't want to go into all the details of it now but we are so unhappy with everythings that's going on with her current school, I wouldn't consider it unless I was desperate

We were told not to as then you are home educating and absolving the LEA of all responsibility in finding a school place. This is not to say you should continue to send her in if causing distress but just not take her off the school role.

Thanks for replying, I just don't want to make an emotional decision if its going to negativily impact her future schooling

I'd agree with PP. Don't de-register her or take her off current school roll because it may mean LA washes their hands of her/she gets put to the bottom of the pile. However, if her current school is making her miserable and distressed, would they perhaps consider a reduced timetable/shortened day for her? Or authorising absences until the end of term? If they have stated they cannot meet her needs, there's a strong case to be made for an interim agreement/ arrangement which causes less distress for your daughter. Good luck!
