DD is almost 6 and in Primary 1 at school (Scottish system).

I've always had concerns about her attention span, hyperactivity, constant chattering and inability to sit still. She's had previous referrals to physio for her gross motor skills (no concerns but she's got a weak trunk) and speech therapy which she still attends.

School are really quite concerned about her ability to follow instructions. She can't work unsupervised at all really and struggles to wait her turn. She's easily upset over small things and interrupts constantly. She's not aggressive at all, I'd confident and outgoing and has a caring nature but is very sensitive about feelings of not being liked at times.

She's been referred for further investigation, everything I've read suggests ADHD but obviously I've no real experience of this. Will getting a diagnosis be really difficult? Are they likely to suggest medication?

I'm so sad for her, I just want her to have a happy childhood with friends and not be thought of as "different"

Our diagnosis was one appointment with a paediatrician and then us and school filling in questionnaires and sending them back. A letter through the post arrived saying that the diagnosis was ADHD along with a leaflet about medication. I was a bit taken aback at how quickly it was done really.

Two here with adhd and asd. I also think my eldest has adhd. My middle dd is 8 and was medicated at 6 but we had done everything in terms of behavioural intervention and medication was our last choice but it is hugely beneficial for her.

Diagnosis was straight forward for my youngest but my middle it took a bit longer (she was in the system at 2 and diagnosed at 6). She’s happy to a degree but has a lot of anxiety but has friends. Life is slightly different but she also has asd as well. I’m about to go down the diagnosis route with my eldest despite being unsure but as someone who has adhd and was not diagnosed I wish I had been. Good luck and do pm me if you want a chat.
