Upset by my mum's comments

I e/mailed some pictures of my children to my mum - among them the one of ds that is now in my profile. My mum thanked me in an e/mail and said what a lovely smile ds had (in a different photo).

But then today she said to me on the phone about the photo in my profile "Surely ds doesn't really look like that? So short, head so big?"

It upset me a bit because ds is what he is to me and when I see a picture of him I just see cuteness, nothing else. I know she probably didn't mean to upset me, but it just made me think as well how other people view ds...

Good news abotu his chest! No I didn't, will go and try to find it...

Emkana, he is gorgeous. My daughter has hydracephalus and has had lots of comments about the size of her head, i dont think hers is big either i see her as my beautiful daughter and always will. I think your Mum has been very harsh with her comments and dont understand why she cant see her beautiful grandson.

gosh - my dd2 has a head that measures off the scale and dd3 is right up there almost too - 97% - but dd3 is only 50% for height and weight!! big heads run in our family.

now i've seen the pic - he is gorgeous!!!!

A little Angel!!!. Don't be too disheartened by your mum's comments. Sometimes the people closest to us say things and we take them the wrong way. To me all children, disabled or not, are beautiful just the way they are. I am sure your mum didn't mean to be hurtful. Maybe you should talk to her about how her comment made you feel. It might make you feel better. Your life with a sn child is filled with peoples perceptions and opinions of your child and that will never go away. It doesn't matter one little incy wincy bit what others think about how your child looks. Have confidence to shrug your shoulders and you stay the proud mummy that you are .

oh, a new picture of the gorgeous boy - what a stupid thing to say emkana - I agree with gess, your mum will be coming to terms with it in her way too I suppose.

when my dad came to see dd2 when she was a week old he was relieved to actually see her and said he'd been worried she'd be some kind of monster (despite obviously having been emailed plenty of pictures) - I guess people come out with some really stupid stuff at times.

Last time I saw my mum she said "God haven't you put a lot of weight on?"

that didn't go down very well either.

BUT, and this is a big BUT, my dad has Alzheimer's and she isn't having the easiest of times.
