Funding for a weighted blanket with no diagnosis?

School has suspected that DS 7 has ADHD since yr1. We do deep pressure squeezes as one of our OT exercises. He also uses a weighted lap pad at school. I've been thinking that he may sleep for longer in the mornings if he has a weighted blanket. The only way we could even afford a £30 one would be as his Christmas present, and then we wouldn't be able to get him a toy.

Is there anything I can claim?

Please read up on them and their use. It has to be of a weight a child can remove if overheated etc.

I thought they were only to be used to help them settle and fall asleep, they’re not intended for sleeping.

I made one for my ds out of an old cot duvet cover. It's not hard but it is a bit time consuming.

I used the plastic pellets they sell on amazon as I needed it to be washable. You can use dried beans, which is a lot cheaper.

It might be worth putting in a claim for DLA but get help in completing the form. You don’t need a diagnosis to claim this but do need to evidence that he requires more care and support than another child of the same age.

Def do a DLA application as you are spending time doing therapy and need to buy equipment etc. There is a charity called new life and one called family fund that supply funding for equipment etc but not sure if you need to be on benefits to apply, but may be worth a look x
