Sorry to ne boring.. but ^what^ can I get DS for his birthday???

I am just stumped really.

Will have a maximum of £40 to spend (somehow!). DS will be 7, but not bothered whether it's classically age appropriate or not. He is very active but can't walk unaided. Has lots of "favourites", eg Noddy, Bob the Builder, Clifford and others.

Have thought of DVDs but seems a bit boring especially as this is what others will buy him I expect.

He uses his hands but is very clumsy with them; can't actually draw or write; just make marks. (He has a type of cp plus learning difficulties/developmental delay.. you know, classic description ofr "no proper diagnosis"!)

I just don't know what to get him!!And neither does DH! And he is the centre of our (manic!) world, so we really need to think of something nice!

Birthday is on the 18th June.

how about not a Thing but an Experience - a day out somewhere or a show or something, or a trip to see something you think would interest him?

That's not a bad idea. We are having a little family party for him (given up inviting school friends; they don't come! Downside of mainstream school maybe? But that's a whinge for other threads and have done in the past!)

As long as he has other things to open on the day; and he will have from other people I should think. Maybe we can get him a cheapy token gesture to open.

He keeps pointing at the paper which is advertising a Thomas the Tank engine weekend at a local light railway. We did this last year instead of a party, and paid for our friends children and it all ended up costing more than we could really afford but maybe if just the four of us go (DH, I, DS2 (the DS in question.. DS1 is too old I'm sure!) and DD (8).

If he'd appreciate it, you could mention it's his birthday when you book and see if they'd lay on something special, like when they stick a sparkler in your pudding in a restaurant...

definetly agree on a day out. we took dd1 to chester zoo this year. it was a lovely day.

During his bob the builder phase my DS really enjoyed receiving bob the builder toys from woolworths - they are not too small, move easily, etc. I think they are about £7 each.

Another big hit is when I make him a photo album - I actually do this a lot as it is a good conversation aide. I get little 10 - photo plastic albums from Muji and make "themed" albums (family members, holiday, etc).
