Unilateral hearing loss and Cros aid?

Does anybody have any experience of this?
My son is 9 months old and we have a audiology appointment in the near future and was thinking of asking for them to aid my son with a Cros hearing aid.
He has profound sensoneural hearing loss in his left ear, right ear is hearing.
I feel like I have been fobbed off time and time again with this doesn't bother children and it won't have any impact on his speech and language, which I don't believe.
I have spoke to the NDCS and my local charity who have said to keep pushing and pushing.
They won't even investigate what's caused it as they believe its due to gentamicin he was given at birth (2 doses) but that's a whole different story.
Does your child have unilateral deafness? And if so, has it impacted speech and language?
Has anybody managed to get a Cros aid and do you believe it has helped?
Sorry for the long post, lots of questions and no real answers.

Yes my DD (11) has exactly the same hearing loss. She used to have the bad ear aided, but the hearing loss is so large that we decided about age 5 that wasn’t working. It squeeled a lot! We had nothing for a while and then borrowed a radio aid on a technology trial from the NDCS age 9. It worked well but it was a faff to get it used correctly in school. We couldn’t get that provided by audiology so we bought one. Unfortunately it broke at school so we were a bit fed up and asked about CROS aid. Our audiology fund that because it’s a hearing aid (whereas radio aid, which effectively does the same thing with the mic on a gadget rather than on the ear isn’t!). My daughter doesn’t like the CROS aid so we are considering handing it back. We may revisit the radio aid but for now we’ll go back to relying on good position placement for good communication. I have heard of others with the same hearing loss liking the CROS aid though. I don’t think that there is a black and white answer for unilateral loss, especially with funding being a mine field.
