Deaf hearing loss in babies

My baby is four months old, he was 11 weeks early only 6 weeks old corrected. He’s currently on home oxygen.
At present he cannot year, we are not sure how permanent this is until we go back at 13 months.
He keeps getting very upset and when he gets into a state he holds his eyes closed so cannot see me, I can’t soothe him with words and holding him picking him up and cuddling doesn’t seem effective. Does anyone have any advice???

Hi my little boy was born partially deaf. We had the same issue no idea how bad until he was older. He is older now and has hearing aids. Baby will open eyes more as the weeks progress. But in the mean time, i used to hold him close to my face, in the hope he could feel my breath and feel the vibrations from my voice trying to soothe him. I used to stroke his face and rub gently on his ears. Hope it helps, made me sad reading and no one had answered you x

Cupping side of face with hand and stroking cheek with thumb worked for us, also holding to your chest so he can feel your breath/heart beat.
I'd push to be seen by Audiolody sooner than 13months, that's a long time to wait.

6 weeks old is a tricky time for all babies too. Can you access any support through hearing loss charities or local baby groups?

I’d see your HV and ask for support before this takes a toll on your mental health. It’s tough enough with a full-term baby, so don’t be afraid to ask for help.
