School are ready to put in for an EHCNA for dc. However someone has said it would be better if I do it.
Any thoughts? Is this true?

Do you and school want the same type of support?

AornisHades · 03/06/2018 20:26

Yes, it's a joint effort so it really is just whether we or they submit it! We have a good SENCO.

I would just let them submit. There is a section that parents need to complete with their wishes and you can attend all the discussions/panels if you wish.

Whoever is going to send the forms in the quickest should do it. Time is of the essence and too many local authorities do not stick to legal deadlines. Angry

No difference in who'd do it quicker.
I've gone for school doing it in the end.

From personal experience YOU should do it. Then all correspondence goes to you and you're in control of any chasing otherwise it's Chinese whispers via school.

AornisHades · 04/06/2018 21:02

Ah bother. Our SENCO's pretty good so hopefully that won't be too bad.

I emailed mine in and the timeline starts then. Do it now, it's done and started then rather than waiting for senco to gather paperwork, fill in forms etc.

Haveasay · 06/06/2018 22:54

It makes no difference to the timeframe the local authority work within and it doesn't matter who initiates it correspondence and communication will come to you as parent. You should be given a contact name in the SEN team with the acknowledgement that they have received a request for assessment and off you go!

BackforGood · 06/06/2018 23:05

What Haveasay said.

Thanks all.
Miss our SENCO and I had agreed timescales and she had gathered all the evidence first. We're going to struggle because it's HFASD with excellent academic ability so the SENCO knows she needs her very best work :) I'm more than happy to work with her.
