To get 10year old Asd dd a wheelchair

My dd who has been diagnosed with autism for over a year now and her behaviour has always been somewhat unpredictable and unmanageable and even more so as she has got older. She is more on the medium functioning side so really doesn't look disabled iyswim but her outbursts have become so bad especially with running off episodes and lying on the floor in the middle of pavements that we avoid going many places or don't go very often to things like the zoo (I'm a sahm with 3 other children and I don't drive) so buses or taxis but for all the inbetween it's very difficult as not only is her behaviour so unmanageable now I can't physically carry her but also walking around places she gets very tired and wont walk far. I considered a McLaren major but she is too big and I don't want her to feel embarrassed if her friends see her but I'm considering a wheelchair. Do you think it's OTT just worried about people judging me. Tia

I didn't finish learning to drive as it got too expensive so I gave up a few years ago but thinking of starting up again in September but until then we will struggle with any trips out as her meltdowns and inability to want to walk far between bus stops etc means I'm considering a wheelchair

Thanks zzzz I agree I think driving will open up a lot more for us. Just trying to think of a solution for the time in between. If I was to get a wheelchair do you think I would get judgy comments of the public. Just need something to get us through the summer hols in July otherwise we will be mostly confined to the house except for the odd stressful day out

I would avoid a wheelchair in your situation. A car would be a perfect solution ! If you can’t agfird one at the moment, I think, depending on your borough, you can get discounts for Taxi’s.
