Comfortable school trousers that stay up?

Ds is 7 and wears a pull up in the day he has asd and is always hardly ever still, his school trousers tend to slip down a bit after a short while of being on the move so they sit under his hips and hang too low despite the waist being as tight as it can comfortably be. Does anyone else have this problem? At home he wears elasticated waisted jeans or joggers and they are fine. Looking for any recommendations for stretchy comfortable school trousers that stay up? Thank you

Sew the waist band from a pair of jogging bottoms to the inside of the trousers.

Thanks captain I hadn't considered that. I'm not very good at sewing though so not sure how good it would turn out!

If you can't do it you could always try and see if the school will let him wear jogging bottoms as a resonable adjustment.

You could bring the trousers into a place that does clothes alterations and get them to make the waistband elasticated. I had to do this with my son's trousers as they kept going down very low as he is always jumping around - but he didn't really notice they were low and I didn't want the other children laughing at him. I brought a pair of tracksuits bottoms that fit him well when I went in to the alterations place and asked them to make the waistband of the school trousers the same.

Marks and Spencer have school clothes adapted for children with autism and when my son was aged 7 the waistband was elasticated - but when I ordered them for age 8 I only realised when I got them that it was a non-elasticated waistband which was no good for him. www.marksandspencer.com/l/kids/school-uniform/easy-dressing-school-uniform/easy-dressing-school-uniform-range?OmnitureRedirect=Easy+dressing

Thanks purecoldwind my little boy is the same, were the alterations very expensive to have done? Will have to have a look and see if there's anywhere near me that could do it. The m and s ones look ok but he would probably need age 8 as he's quite tall so I assume they wouldn't have the elasticed waist band.

My DS just wears the appropriate colour jogging bottoms to school because he can’t stand the fabric on standard school trousers. Could you ask to do that?

Sweets123 · 25/05/2018 12:46

Thanks Springerlink I could ask and will if the other options don't turn out to be more suitable, I wanted to try out all possibilities as he wears trainers already due to hypermobility and not tolerating different shoes (school were ok with this) he's not too bad with clothing though generally

Would a belt make it hard for him to get them off?

PureColdWind · 25/05/2018 19:46

It cost about £8 to get them altered but I only asked in one place. It cost more than the trousers but was well worth it as it solved the problem.

Maybe someone you know could do it?

I know that I have posted this lots of times before, but, Matalan do elasticated school trousers up to age 11. Asda do elasticated waists up to age 6-7. They are really soft after a few washes.

Sweets123 · 27/05/2018 10:34

I have been looking at elasticated belts and may get one to try out, I think it would probably need a magnetic clip or easy clip type buckle.
Im Collecting the recently ordered stretchy trousers today so hopefully they are better.
Ive spoken to the alterations place and they said to come in so will try get down there this week with ds. Unfortunalty we've moved house and I dont really know anyone here yet. Going to look at matalan website now thanks chocolateandjam Smile
