Freedom of information request for SN child

Anyone made a FOI request on behalf of their child - to their SEN office, SLT, OT etc.

I was wondering how you went about it and whether you found it useful

I'm unhappy with how my childs Annual Review has been managed - delays, 10, now 11 months out of time, reduction in support.
Not really sure what I am looking for - I just feel like things are being swept away.

Yes, but I think you mean a subject access request - where it's copies of all the data on your child? Data Protection law changes on May 25th, this week. You will be entitled to the info in a month, as opposed to 2 months previously. Also, they can no longer charge unless its voluminous correspondence. You can request personal data is changed, if you think it's wrong!

You would have to do two - say one to your local authority; and one to your local SLT service (there is probably a pro forma request form on their website). Trouble is the local authority can "weed" out any info they don't want you to see, like internal emails! However, it's worth a try!

I found the SLT service one was much more informative of the two!

I had no idea that they were entitled to weed information out - isn't that a bit contrary to the point of it all?!

Maybe I need to throw my net wider and apply to all the therapists treating my DD.

No, they are not allowed to weed stuff out, but I believe some do! If you suspect stuff has not been provided to you, you can make a complaint to the Information Commissioner!

GDPR is the name of the changes coming in this week. There are articles about it in the press and the Information Commissioner's website.
