ASD - Ice Skating - Any Tips? First NAS local event

I am going Ice Skating with 4-year-old tomorrow (Sat). I've been before, but he hasn't. If you take a child with ASD ice skating, do you have any tips?

Also, this is the first NAS local event I am attending. I'm not great at social events. What are local NAS events usually like? Anyone been to one before, what am I letting myself in for?

I don't know much about ice-skating (except that I'm sadly lacking in the necessary co-ordination to be able to do it ) but IME local NAS events are usually good. The people running them/attending are friendly and helpful and always try to make newcomers feel welcome. I don't get to many but I've enjoyed the ones I've been to.

Enjoy!

Most, if not all, attending the NAS event will be parents with their children with ASD, they are a very good way to network. I know someone who took his son with ASD ice skating regularly. He actually went on the ice in a pair of trainers and said this worked well (I can't imagine it mind you). I think you should just go slow! Maybe the others have been before so will know the best way? Hope you enjoy it. Relax if you can!

Will try to relax. I hate social events.

We survived, in my usual way of not really taking to anyone as I didn't know them. Only fell over a few times
