After almost a week of phoning the orthotics department and getting nowhere - an appointment magically appeared from nowhere this morning...the woman was telling me that there were no appointments all week - and oh - one just dropped into her lap the more I complained!!!! LOL!!! - AND it was for the very same day!!!
Soooo - I have just got back now - the orthotist said DS has broken all records by going through his boots so fast!! He has ordered a new pair and is having a rubber strip fitted to the front to help stop the same thing happening again. He has also ordered them in different sizes as his feet are a whole size different....he HAD outgrown them in one foot - as I had suspected. (I wasn't allowed 2 pairs though!!! I asked if he could have some trainer boots as well - but he said he can only have one pair at a time!)
HOPEFULLY he will get them before we go on holiday in 2 weeks!
Thanks for all those of you who advised me on going back to the orthotist after only 6 weeks!!!

GOOD!
Well done Slightlymad.
Wish I was having as much success: they had promised DS some sandals, have repeatedly f***d it up, and finally told us to buy some and they will add a shoe lift to 'see him throuhgh' until they can re-order some Piedro ones. But his little foot is in a 'baby' size and his big foot is in a 'pre-school' size, so there is NO high st range of childrens footwear in which i can buy two pais of matching shoes. DS was crying when we went to the final shop and they had none...
So now we are harrassing the orthotics dept on a daily basis.

No success here at the orthotist . Just rung to find out how long shoe raises are taking and been told 5 WEEKS.....so I've had to go and get dd's school shoes today and take them so that they'll be back for term-time. She'll probably have grown out of them by then!!!

Well done, slightlymad. My what a coincidence that the appointment just happened to become available when you complained.

I hope things improve for you soon too, Blu and Luckymum. Will keep my fingers crossed for you both.

Blu · 03/08/2004 18:15

Thank you, Coppertop.

confession time.........I just used to turn up so they had to see us

i am so naughty Wink

slightlymad · 03/08/2004 19:45

LOL....I like it Fio2. Might try that one next time!!!

Hope you manage to get your shoes sorted soon Blu and Luckymum. It's bloody awful the length of time they have kept you both hanging around. It's a real shame for the kids.
Hope you get some luck really soon...

Just wanted to say - today I collected DS's new Piedro boots (AFTER we returned from holiday - not before!) - and they seem to have changed them - the whole of the inside is really padded and really soft and comfortable!!! Our last pair were really hard inside!!

Excellent news, Slightlymad - that sounds much better.

We are still waiting for DS's sandals and he goes on about them constantly. We have an appointment on the 9th Sept to collect them - so too late for Summer here - but we are off to visit the ils in the tropics, so they will come in v useful.

This sounds too good to be true almost....I was talking with one of my daughters conductors today about potty training. She mentioned that she'd once read an ariticle about a device that you can put into a NAPPY, that plays music/makes a noise when the child wets the nappy....... where can I get one (sounds very american to me)? If anybody knows, would you share the information with me please.

Blu · 24/08/2004 16:29

Ummm, don't think you can get them at the orthotists, Mulsey!

slightlymad · 24/08/2004 18:38

Blu,

Can't believe you are STILL waiting for the sandals My DS is on his 2nd pair of boots whilst you have been waiting....not at all fair is it. Why does there have to be such huge discrepancies in services across the country.
