just wondering if anyone has been able to get the family fund to be a bit quicker. dd1 is 3 in less than 2 weeks, i should finally be hearing back to see whether she's been accepted to go to our local special needs school. the problem we have is that even if she does get accepted (she should be accepted we've been told) we don't have transport as we can't drive and at the moment there's no help available. we've just been awarded the higher rate mobility part of the dla but we're waiting to hear back about the driving lessons from the family fund. it says it's going to take 12-15 weeks. this is too long for us and i am going to struggle getting there even in a taxi, dd1 doesn't walk and have 10 month old dd2 with me. also it's going to cost about £15 each way, taxis around here are usually cars not cabs. i don't know what to do. we're getting no where with social services as the woman who deals with us never gets around to doing things. i'm so stressed out. the amount of things that are getting cut around here is unbelievable, they used to provide transport but they've now stopped it for the nursery.

how far do you live from the nursery??

in some areas there is a 'mileage allowance payable'if you live a certain distance in order for your child to attend and receive the NEG (that kicks in the term after the child's birthday)but there are also special allowances made for children with SEN.

does your child have a statement of special educational needs (or have you started the process?)
If your lea are requesting that your child goes to special school nursery then talk/write to your named officer and explain your difficulties with transport

do you have regualr good communication and support from a health visitor?
see if the hv can open any suggestions to you.

Good luck

we're still waiting to hear back from the board, we've sent all the paper work off but it's going to take another couple of weeks before we hear the decision but our portage worker says there is no reason she shouldn't get in. we've just had a team around the child meating and they've told us that because she's not in the school only the nursery there's no help available but they wanted our social worker to see what she could do and she just isn't doing anything. my hv's been great, arranging to get dd2 in a sure start nursery placement whilst dd1 is in our cdc assessment nursery for when i do my driving lessons but i can't do them until i get help with the cost as i'm a full time career for dd1 and dp works full time but comes home with buttons. i know that if i could drive it'd solve all our problems but the way things are it might take months before i've passed.
