Hi,
After 2 years of assessments we have finally got a diagnosis of autism for my 7yr old ds. I am not sure how to start explaining the diagnosis to him and his older sister (10yrs). Are there any books people would recommend that could help?
Many thanks

Actually what we did was make a little book of our own using photobox and some of the tips from the NAS book Talking About Diagnosis (or something like that). So:
'I am Henry. I'm 6 years old.
I love Power rangers, football, animals.
I'm good at xxx. Mummy and Daddy think I'm brilliant because of xxx.
Another special thing about me is that I am autistic.
Good things about my autism are my super strong sense of smell, my amazing memory etc.
People with autism sometimes find xxx hard but Mrs Riley helps me get better at handwriting/xxx.
Famous autistic people include The Blue Power Ranger/the sesame street character/Chris Packham/Daryl Hannah/Einstein/Gary Numan/William Tyndale. (Delete according to interests!)
Autistic people are responsible for some of the great technological/artistic/musical advances.
What brilliant things will I do when I grow up? Spaceman? Train driver? (Pictures of him dressed up as astronaut/train driver/at the zoo etc)
whatever it is, I will be fantastic!

It felt really celebratory, and really encouraged our dd to view her autism with pride and to talk about it very openly and positively.

Just reread your post and you could include
Julie is good at xxx and Henry is good at xxx. We are all different. (With pictures of them. Lots of pictures throughout obviously)

To make it more relevant to his sister.
