I think emotionally i would have felt better putting an advert in the local paper and saying my ds has Autism. Im just fed up of people asking me or me having to tell them my son has Autism. I want to get on with life and im fed up with comments like he could be a lot worse etc, that doesnt really help me. I love my son to bits and theres a lot more to him than Autism but some people dont even mention him now and just say oh how is ds1(name). I feel as if people can only talk about Autism when i talk about ds2, or nobody wants to talk at all. I dont know if i make sense, im just having a rant here.

I can understand you wanting to rant. You may need to have some tips on turning the conversation around to other things.

When I am bored with conversations I usually say
"well this funny thing happend the other day...
the I normally tell then something that happend on here"

and jibber on until I have completely confused them....that does the trick for me.

I'd rather poeple ask than just stare. DD has severe cerebral palsy and is in a wheelchair.
Even friends seem nervous about asking how she is in case I say she's had a seizure or has died!
But sometimes when popele stare I just say 'oh, she's lazy.' and watch them goggle
