Hi my DS, (7) ASD/SPD is not coping accessing mainstream from his base specialist school and his anxiety about having to attend is having an impact on his learning.
I am currently exploring more appropriate schools with his teacher as she agree that he is unlikely to intergrate for the required period 30% in mainstream as he has shown no increase in attending in 3 years. The unit he is in at the moment only has 7 children and this has suited him well, if you took out the mandatory mainstream integration it is perfect.
I am looking for specialist HF schools in the Buck, Berks, Herts, Oxfordshire area that would provide a good level of tailored curriculum and good language models. He is very bright but struggles with accessing mainstream curriculum but can work at a higher level than age in maths when it is put through an interest such as turtles or cats.
I currently have on my shortlist, Thames Vallry school, Hillingdon Manor, Egerton Rothesay, Furze down school, and Chilworth house.
Ideally we would want a school that can take him up until he is 19 as he really struggles with transitions.
Has anyone any other ideas or have any experience with the above schools.?
