Skiing- what age to start son with DS

We are hoping to go on skiing holiday next year but dont know which resort/ company would be best. My son is 7 and is very able physically. Has anyone gone skiing? Can anyone give advice?

At our dry ski slope we have regular groups from the local Special Olympics group - you could try contacting your local branch to see if they have something similar local to you if you want to give it a try before commiting yourself. Our local groups also organise trips, which are obviously geared around the needs of the participants.

Saw some adaptive skiing going on at smugglers notch last year SNAP - don't have SN kids myself - but they had a very high standard for the general kids stuff so if they carry that into their adaptive program I reckon it would be pretty good.

Try Erna Low - they're about the only tour company I know which actually runs an adaptive skiing programme. This page is talking more about skiing with physical disabilities, but you might get some useful information from the links.

If he is physically able,I would treat him as any other child.Go now and have fun!

I agree that if he is physically able you don't need a specialist company. My DS is now 6 and has been skiing since he was 3 and 1/2, in France and Switzerland, at regular ski-school. I would add that skiing also seems to be very good for him on a sensory level (he has high-functioning autism). Every time we have come back from a ski holiday his teachers and therapists have found him to be in great form.
