DS recently received a dx of ASD&ADHD. We've suspected it for years and went through a very long process.
We moved DS to a smaller school which helped, the support has been amazing and SALT intervention offered some useful tips to both school and at home.
I have a meeting coming up with the senco at school. I want to be able to put things in a clear manner. For instance we're having issues such as he won't sit still long enough to eat his dinner or finish his work. Which I assume is the adhd side of it. No medication given as of yet. His Paeditrician discharged him after dx. At home he refuses to do his homework. Trying to make him do his maths homework led to a major meltdown and I let it go. Couple or days later no pressure, he just picked his homework up and tried again by himself and did brilliantly. He's been having difficulty with his friendships too. This has been picked up in his assessments quite a lot, that he always appears younger than he actually is in social situations.
How do you explain/politely drill into family friends and school to differentiate between the ASD&ADHD & not just assume he's 'playing up'. What strategies have you found work best?
