ASD / ADHD assessment results meeting - what to ask ?

We have a meeting next week at which we will get the results of DS's ASD / ADHD assessment. We expect that he will receive a diagnosis of both. In terms of making the most of that meeting, is there anything we should ask ? He is 8, in mainstream school and high functioning. We're not in the UK so supports (if any) are different.

Would welcome any thoughts in case we end up kicking ourselves afterwards for not getting answers to important questions.

Generally the people who do the assessing/diagnosing ave little knowledge about what comes next in my experience. Google, Facebook and local parents will be your greatest source of help and information.

One benefit is that once you know you can target your research to his particular needs.

have not 'ave'

Thanks so much Polder. I fear you are right on that count. Are there any questions in relation to drilling into his specific needs I should make sure to ask ? Also, I suspect they may mention medication in relation to ADHD and I'd like to be informed on this before agreeing.

ADHD med's can be life changing, adults I know who take them sing their praises. They tend to show effect very quickly but also leave the body very quickly which is good in the event they aren't helpful. It's common where there is co-occurring ASD and ADHD for the Autism to become more prominent once the ADHD is medicated, so do be prepared for this.

Polter can you expand on what you mean by the Autism becoming more prominent? Are there any examples you can give? DS1 (6yrs) is on the verge of an ASD diagnosis but I'm wondering whether he may also have ADHD.
