Ds (ASD) started in Y8 yesterday. He came home and told me he didn't think he could cope with all the changes (which I was never warned about but I tried to prepare him for the best I could) eg knocked him down a set in all subjects so no familiar pupils, new form tutor who he had never met until yesterday and all ready decided he will not speak to!, 2 teachers for English and lots of other new staff amongst other stuff. We chatted for a while and I thought we had settled his mind a little.
Unfortunatly not. This morning I had tears, he refused to get dressed, had no interest in his pc which is part of his routine no matter what and it took quite a lot of encouragement and reassurance until he was finally out the door.
I contacted the school because he is obviously struggling and they need to be aware because if he is stressed it will have a knock on affect everywhere else, I haven't seen him this way for a long time. We have had a few wobbles but we can usually sort it quite easily. Anyway, couldn't get to speak to anyone so had to leave a message. Rang back at 10 to be told that they can pass a message on if I liked??? So I dont even kno if the recorded message was even picked up!
Is this the same for all High schools? Ds is FB so I have no idea how it is supposed to be. That along with a couple of other things at the end of last year has really started to have me doubting if this is the best school for ds.
