My son is dx autism and Gdd, non - verbal and literally understands nothing I say. He's 4. He can walk.

We get DLA high rate, it said I had to wait til he was 5 to get mobility but I'm sure I read somewhere you can get it for under 5s if they have a severe mental impairment which I believe he does.

He has a ehcp and gets the highest funding possible from the council when he goes to school in sept.

Does anyone get it?

Our daughter is 4 now but been getting high rate mobility and care from age 3. She has autism and sensory processing give them a ring to update your claim. Best of luck.

I know they dont tell you, they will send you a new form and just make sure you fill it in to say the walking difficulties, any refusals to walk and no awareness of danger. Its awful to write it but say it at its worst and no roses. Message me if you need to ask ànything.

Thanks! I will give them a call tomorrow now!
Last time I tried to focus a lot on his night time needs and care as I didn't know I could get mobility as well so I only touched up on his need about running off etc.
He literally nearly ran in the road today as I took him out of the park so was having a melt down and just ran, I only just caught him in time and fell over grabbing him so we both ended up in a pile on the floor which was embarrassing and hurt like hell!
Filling out the forms is so depressing! But it needs to be done so il defo ring them tomorrow and I may have to message you with help on the mobility bit if that's ok x

No probs we go through very similar to you on a daily basis. I have just taught my daughter a code word and pecs sign to make her stop and stand still. Its really helped with danger and running off. It takes a while but might be worth a try.
