All My Kids have Aspergers and Autism

Hi my kids ages 19 15 and 10 have all been recently diagnosed. My 19 and 15 year old have aspergers and my 10 year old has aspergers/autism. We all have Ehlers Danlos as a family. The diagnosis has been like a huge jigsaw that has come together over the years. I had no knowledge of autism at all. The paediatrician we saw has said about getting a OT for them and also speech therapy for my 10 year old. They have all been home educated for the past 4 years also. Well done getting them their diagnoses and hope it helps. It's not unusual in a family with autistic kids for one or both parents to be autistic too...

Thank you and sorry I didn't make it clear in that message. I just wanted to know what if anything I should be doing and anyone know of any help or support for children with it, or charities/organisations that would know about it, have people found OT, or speech therapy helpful etc. Thank you. x

Interesting on the ASD and EDS!
I have two on the spectrum (one Aspie one ASD with learning disabilities) and three with EDS! Two have both.

Personally I have not found OT very helpful for the autism side as most have had sensory processing stuff removed from their remit due to budget cuts (that's my experience as a parent and from working in special ed for many years) but if you do get an OT that works with ASD..hang on to them.
For the EDS OT input can be very useful... stuff to help in the house... stair rails, bath seats, adaptive seating if needed..wheelchairs (my youngest wears splints and has a w/c) We had a disabled facilities grant which allowed us to build on a downstairs wet room for DS2 when he was little .

My opinions of speech therapists is probably biased and unfair (DS2 didn't have speech til he was 5 and was incomprehensible tl he was 9 and they did fuck all really)

There is a website for EDS and of course the National Autistic Society is a good start for ASD.
For friendly ' any disabilities' support I recommend specialkidsintheuk.org Their summer camp every year is just amazing!
