Constipation/bowel issues/reflux - anyone's child had a bowel biopsy and endoscopy?

Ds has been referred to a gastroenterologist wrt to his chronic constipation stomach problems and reflux. His normal paed mentioned the possibility of a biopsy and an endoscopy - and the possibility of a gastrostomy to get more liquids into him. I am bloody terrified, has anyone been through this? (Have also posted in children's health)

Are they checking for Hirschsprungs disease? Sounds like it if they are looking at a biopsy. (Means certain nerves that get the poo moving aren't there) The colonoscopy and biopsy will be ok.. the prep isn't pleasant as it is designed to REALLY clear out the bowel, so it is a nuclear level bunch of laxatives (sometimes tablets sometimes Moviprep drink...which is gross but doable) He'll be sedated for the procedure and it's the easy bit..the prep is the worst. I mix mine (had several) with lemonade, and , um, gin (prob not recommended!!!)

If he needs a gastrostomy, well tbh I sometimes wish all kids came with them ! They are neat and usually after healing a child will have a 'button'.. looks like a the airhole bit on a lilo.. a little extention tube is attached for water, (or meds or feed) and it is very easy to get used to... ( I work with many kids who have gastros) and for those who can't take enough fluid orally they are a godsend.

Try not to be scared.. it is good that they are going to look into the cause !
