Advice please re school reading and dyslexia

I have a 6yo with dyslexia, who sees a tutor weekly and practises reading (guided by the tutor) every day. We used to slog through school reading books, but since getting into the new regime with the tutor, we've been reluctant to give her yet more reading to do (books also quite variable, not all from same scheme, etc). School say she must read the books so they can assess her level

Bother, sorry, posted too soon! - but we feel this is counterproductive - dd used to have huge tantrums over school reading books and was getting to the point where she hated reading, whereas now she can see herself making progress and knows why she isn't as quick as her friends. Any advice please?

Does she have an Individual Provision Map (I think that's what it's called)? I think this sort of thing would be included in that discussion. I did work with the school to ensure that the reading material was appropriate - and they were really happy for us to use non-school resources to keep the engagement with reading going.

I had my DC's school tweak various assessments so as not to cause further problems and damage his engagement with reading and maths. This was written up into his IPM and transitioned at year end, meaning we didn't have to have the same conversations all over again.

Thank you, that's very helpful! She doesn't have an IPM- she just has a pupil passport which lays out some strategies for her teacher to make classroom more dyslexia-friendly, etc - but she has just had a change of teacher, so I think we'll need to go and have another conversation. Annoying, as before this I felt they were paying attention to her needs, but she's feeling under pressure at the moment - gets anxious and calls herself "stupid". Really appreciate your taking the time to post.
