Suggestions for a really good protective case for an iPad

Hi all

So after a big bad rage episode, DD threw her iPad on the floor and the screen is destroyed. The cost of repair is over 300£ and I was advised to buy a new iPad instead ("just" 100£ more...) as it means better model and insurance. Ours was only 3 years old!

Anyway, I was wondering if you guys had good suggestions for a proper, super strong iPad protective case? I don't care if it's huge or ugly, I just want to make sure she doesn't break the new one in another rage episode, which are frequent at the moment, and difficult to handle. She uses the iPad a lot for learning, and I don't want to take it away.

I think we have griffin case on ours but the protector for glass is film u stick on.

We got ipads from John Lewis as they do 2 years accidental damage for £35 I think.

U could claim on your contents.

We buys lots of stuff from argos and get their insurance as we have gone through 3 tv's with dc rage or hyperness

Thanks - I had the Apple insurance but like all the others it's only for 2 years...you can't renew it. Our house insurance doesn't cover IT devices, and it would cost 15£ a month to add an IT device extra insurance.
It's all made for making us pay more.

We use "Big Grips" at my SEN school.
Very protective but also chunky and easy to hold.

thanks guys! good suggestions. hesitating between Otterbox and Griffin, both look great in theory but both have mixed reviews.

DD has an Otterbox - her Ipad has survived undamaged for 4 years!

We've had both the otterbox and the griffin. Both are pretty robust and I'd happily use either of them again, but would probably choose the otterbox. The ipads go into school and back daily so lots of bumps and knocks, being dropped off the table etc.

Griffen is quite a chunky rubber case, which can be a bit much for little hands. The rubber protectors over the connectors came off easily (an issue if you have a child who will put anything in their mouths), we just left them off after a while.

DS didn't really like the texture. My biggest issue was it was a fluff magnet, always managed to look sticky and covered in bits. The stand was pretty fiddly to use. This really did feel like it would absorb any impact though.

Otterbox has a thinner rubber layer inside a hard plastic shell. It's much smoother to hold, and much easier to wipe clean (plus it doesn't seem to attract grime in the same way in the first place).

Ours has a second half which clips over the screen when the ipad isn't beign used. Big plus when it's being carried around but it's fiddly to get off, DS can't always do it and so tends not to put it on. Stand is much better on this one.

Both are an absolute pain to fit and remove, took me a good 45 minutes to fit the otterbox (mostly opening it up to get the iPad inside) then school needed it out again to read the serial number!

thanks gigglinghyena that's very useful. I actually purchased the griffin as it could be delivered quicker, and I must agree with what you said : fluff collector, and also DD finds it harder to press some icons in the corners, which annoys her - and I don't want her to be annoyed at her iPad again!!
Anyway I hope it will allow this repaired iPad (£££) another life!

It's so funny though reading the hundreds of reviews of these protective cases online. Screens are almost always broken by people's children, which seems very frequent actually, yet Apple hasn't found anything better to prevent it....

That's exactly what I've done zzz, found a local guy who did it in one day. So far so good. It felt silly to throw out a working iPad that just needed a new screen.
