Spoke to dd's school today and they want to refer her.

Had to go see dd's teachers today as they are concerned over some development areas, and they want a full assesment asap and seem to think she has ADHD I just don't know what i should be feeling!! sad, relieved scared. What happens next Please help

I have no experience of this, but saw your unanswered post and didn't want to leave you with no replies

I can totally understand how you are feeling, I think it is only human to feel that way when our children are being scrutinised by others

I hope someone more experienced than me comes along soon, in the meantime keep your chin up

How old is your DD, Chlochlo?

What happens next is probably some waiting for a bit then lots of assessments. If your DD gets help and her behaviour or learning improve, then it should be a good thing.

She's 6. I think if it does get results then it will be a good thing its just a bit of a shock to be honest i just thought she was extreamly lively and a demanding child who would always be difficult to handle iyswim.
Only occasionally did it cross my mind that it could be something else.

Can't really advise as my 5 yr old DD has Down Syndrome, diagnosed at birth, so I am used to "knowing her" as her. But what you must remember is tht she is your daughter and that my someone sticking a label on her won't change her- she will be exactly the same little girl you have always known and loved.

Please try to see this in a more positive light, and if the "worst comes to the worst" you will have a reason and possibly some strategies to deal with her issues.

You are already dealing with your daughters demands, whatever they may be- but it may be you can have a better undersatnding of them.

I am not saying it won't be a shock and an upsetting time if a DX is given and a complete mixture of emotion can only be expected.

Chlochlo - sorry I hadn't touched at all on the emotional aspect of having a diagnosis for your DD. It's been so long for us that DS's deafness (diagnosed at 8 months, he's now 7) is just part of him and who he is and how I've known him. As Dingle says, just because your DD needs a "label" to access educational help (if that's what will happen in the end) doesn't change who she is: your very spirited daughter.
