Going in next week to fill out forms to try and get Paediatrician appnt for DS

DS 4 years of age, shows some signs of possible SEN. He finds it very difficult to concentrate and follow instruction, had speech delay till he was 3.5, now has caught up. I'm concerned he is going to struggle at school once he starts having to sit at the table and listen, his key worker is also the preschool SENCO and she also thinks something might be amiss with him. His cousin has an autism diagnosis.

His key worker said we need to fill in the forms together but that she is going to have to really exaggerate what she says and make it much worse than it is. Now I understand what she is saying, the funding is being cut all the time and they will only give assessments to those they consider are most in need BUT I'm concerned that if she basically makes stuff up then that's going to sit on his record all the way through his schooling, and I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Do I agree to exaggerate to get him seen or do I ask for her to be accurate and take a chance they won't think he needs the assessment?

A friend who has been through this process said to me that you should write as if it's your child's worst day.

Not exaggerating at all, just stating calmly how challenging things can be for you and your child.

You can balance with frequency, so xx displays xx behaviour which causes xx problems/ additional needs. On average this happens xx times per day/week etc.

I'm just at the beginning of this process, so someone with more experience may be able to give better advice.

Argh it's so difficult as he is such a good boy now with me, I don't really have any issues with him. It's other people that come to me with concerns which is predominantly why I think he should be seen. So from my point of view I have little to say.

Could you try through your gp instead? No school should be exaggerate - as poster said it should be his worst day at preschool. Has preschool put an iep in place as here you need two iep before ed psych will even look at the child
