My son is in process of autism assessment he had an obession with the fruit bowl which includes linng putting into cater fries as he calls it I V got a video of the latest thing he done but can't see how to put it up so u can see can anyone help me please. Thanks in advance X

How old is he? IIt seems to be pretend play...isn't he pretending the fruit are pillows? And he's "making a bed"?

Echolalia presents differently...I know he's repetitive in his speech but it makes sense..."Pillows Mum" and "These blankets Mum"

My friend's son was Echolalic and he would repeat phrases but in the wrong context...for eg.

My friend would say "Tom...say hello to Sharon" and Tom would say

"Say hello to Sharon"

Or he would look out of the window and say "Oh look Tom it's raining"

Instead of seeing it from his own perspective and saying "Look Mummy...it's raining"

So he knew what his MUM would say to seeing rain but not how to say it from his own point of view...he'd just repeat things vaguely in the right context.

Hi Iv only just joined the site very new, thank you for reply my son shows many traits of aspergers/high function autism routines and rituals with throughout the day of everyday life. Delayed speech some time selective mute which has improved since the spear has got better lack of socialising taking himself off for hours to be along to watch and play minecraft which he is extremely good at for 3 years old. Again it worries me though that he would much rather do that then leave the house. Extremely volatile behaviour meltdowns about what we would class as nothing but is extremely important to him. I hope this helps a little X

He says

This a bed Mum, these pillows...for pillows Mum...for everyone.

He then picks up pineapple

BIG pillow! This big pillow! Pineapple is big pillow...make it comfy. It's blankets...etc etc.

He's making a game of it....I would join in with comments like "Are you tucking the blankets in? Oh you're making the bed!

Lack of imaginative play is a big sign in Autism and he certainly has the ability to pretend and to imagine...that's one of the things they test on...a child's ability to pretend one object is another....like saying a shoe is a boat etc.

He could be on the spectrum from what you say OP but this doesn't seem like echolalia at all.

Yes thank u he talks in sentence and gets stuck then neurologist says he has communication difficulties he likes certain toys and plays well finds it difficult to play with his sister and other children we went to a hale web party for little children was not to noisy and people he now he just takes himself upstairs and sits on the step. Iv noticed when he has a lot going on and gets home he gets the fruit bowl lines it all up he also did it after Halloween while my daughter was worry gutting about the sweets! Lol

Yes potter goose I have heard that he has an imagine motion no doubt, but for him to talk and participate in a conversation can be difficult he's sort of just ends it a lot and daysreams he's such a lovely kid though and very clever he just sort of goes under the radar when it comes to socially

It's not echolilia. Is he just 3 or is he nearly 4? The age between 3-4 is an enormous explosion for language skills in children, if he is just three I'd say no probs from this video clip, is he under a speech therapist? If he's nearly four and you are not under salt, then I'd ask for a health visit referral.

Hi yes we are he's 3 and 1/2 he's so each here is very good it's when he engages with you in conversation he gets stuck, he loves to talk about mine craft though we had ST for a while but there seems to be a big difficulty with the communication he gets very stressed
The ST will see him through the assessment process. X

Thank you very much tbh it was fairly obvious from around 1/2 health visitors has been monitoring regularly since then and she has seen a dramatic change in him to the point when she walks through the door he wants to escape to another room and watch minecraft doesn't engage at all

Hi zzzzzz the selective mood was even with family and friends he's getting better he even avoids looking at stangers who talk to him. Tbh it's just general life everything that has been listed rituals and routine are off the scale from eating dressing getting in car bedtime. The way things are picked up. It's unbelievable really.
He refuses to get ready to go preschool after a year and 2 months takes 1/2 just to put a t shirt on lays it out straight asked me to roll it to a position he can take it by the neck it's so difficult for him to explain the exact way it NEEDS to be done we start over and over and over!!! It's quite a lot to go through every day with a 6 year old that's just done in with it all she just doesn't understand it all bless her she has to put up with a lot but he just can't help it I feel so bad for him that he HAS to do this
