DS did well on his SALT assessment

DS8 had two SALT assessments and the feed back from the SALT is that his communication is fine - obviously this is a general feeling and I won't go into specifics - and his problems seem behavioural.
He's awaiting ASD assessment and now I'm wondering how/if he would be diagnosed with ASD.
The Paed who started this process did believe he had Autism. Have any of your children had an OK SALT assessment and still been diagnosed with ASD?

Yes, my child was advanced. However it was accepted that she could not apply the skills consistently nor in conversation with peers. She had a history of language delay prior to this though

It would depend on the type and level of testing the SALT has done. For example the NHS SALT has used 3 sub tests during his a 20 minute session with DS9 and concluded he has no speech and language difficulties. The indie SALT has spent 4 to 5 hours with DS and has identified significant language difficulties. She has diagnosed Language Disorder!

agree with sazale, really depends on the SALT and what tests the Salt did. From experience I would say that it doesn't nessesarily mean there are no issues just because the Salt says so.

I hope you can provide some advice.
My daughter is 4 years old and just started reception. The school suggested me to assess her as she has some communication/behavioural issues. I am in agreement to let her assess, however and as the NHS process can be very long, i would like to go private. Can any of you suggest how best i could go about it? What would be the process?

I would try NHS first, as it may be better than you think and worth a try first?

Thanks for your replies. The SALT is going to do a further assessment of DS. He has meltdowns every day and violent outbursts. I would say that this does affect his communication skills but we will see. We are going through a terrible time and hoping to get an EHCP in place soon. This board is a life saver.
