No first hand experience but I have a friend who home schools her son ((ASD). He was at the same SS as my son before she decided on the home ed route. She had a big old battle with the LA to get the personal budget funding allocated for home ed as it was her choice to remove him so had to then prove the school couldn't meet his needs. she has now got funding and has specialist teachers come to the house and always has to be present, which is a massive tie as she also has another child in MS. She doesn't regret it in her sons case though. There is a home ed board in the education part of the talk forum on mumsnet which may be able to help you more.

I home educate both my dcs, and they both have SNs. We use various resources, and each learns according to what works best for them (dc1 is more visual, whereas dc2 is more "hands on"). One has a statement, which will be switched to EHCP soon I suppose, and the other does not. Both have ASD diagnosis, plus some other issues.

Happy to answer what questions I can, although obviously what works for some may not work for others.
