DS with Dyspraxia and ASD failed his taekwondo grading

I was told today that DS 11, dyspraxia, ASD and visual problems, failed his taekwondo grading. And to make it worse they informed me he has reached his potential and they do not want to see him grading again. I am so angry with his club for putting him forward for this and then assuming he has reached his potential and does not deserve to go any further with the grading. He has been training with them for over 4 years now.

I am so upset for my DS

Any advice on how to proceed with this going foward

My advice find another club or martial art. Any club that teaches an art should not impose a limit to its teachings. There are some awful clubs out there but some really good ones also X

Thanks Buffy for replying, all the other Taekwondo clubs in the surrounding villages are under the same master so the same issue will carry over with DS. The master has viewed DS in 2 grades which total maybe 30 minutes over the last 9 months and he feels he is qualified to make this statement about his potential even though he has never seen him in this own class. DS's own instructor does not attend the gradings wth DS, both times he had to go on his own and grade in a different club.
The areas that he struggled in, in the current grading, are all relating to his dyspraxia and HFA, he gave his very best on the day and did everything that was asked of him.

I may look into a different martial art for DS to try as this attitude has soured me on the club.

What does your ds want to do? Would he be happy to stay at the club and not do any more gradings? I think I would feel the same as you if it happened to my ds, I would be looking for a new club to move him to. My ds has HFA and dyspraxia and I don't think he would cope well with failing a grading test and then being told he can not do anymore. It seems very harsh.

Look for a different style of martial arts - many good 'masters' of one particular style have learnt others X

It is worse than I thought, my husband spoke to the Master directly and yes DS did fail the grading which is fine. At this stage is does get harder and he has a list of areas for DS to work for his next grading which should be about 6 months time. The Master did not comment on DS potential or lack of and was really angry this was mentioned, or that he did not want DS to grade in the near future. All this came directly from his instructor under the guise of the Master. The Master was not even aware that DS has Dyspraxia or HFA which the instructor confirmed yesterday he was aware of. I have to speak to the Master myself tomorrow but either way there is no way DS will be returning under this instructor.

I am so angry at how this has been handled.
