Need urgent assistance in EHCP for autistic child, stuck on wordings and suggesstions.

Hi,
I hope any of you can really help me. I am in process of applying EHCP for my 6 year old autistic child through school after a long battle. Its proving to be a very daunting and lengthy process. School has asked us parents to provide a statement for application and write in detail about all aspects for our child.
It is our first ever experience and we seem to be quite confused what to write and how. We are not very professional so there are few areas in which I need help please.

First they are asking to write in detail about my child’s educational needs and how EHCP can help him.
Also how do we think that the needs can be best provided for.

Any example templates or professional wording would be really appreciated.

And contact Parent Partnership (often called SENDiass now) for your area. It is their job to help you with this.

I went through this a few months ago (we applied for the EHCP ourselves) and found writing the application letter really daunting. It took me about a month. But the finished product was really successful and the Ed Psych said it was amazing and Ds's SN nursery took a copy to use as an example. I'd be happy to share it with you if you like? SENDiass helped me write mine. The lady said that in some cases they write the whole thing for parents who find phrasing it difficult. That is their remit. I then felt more confident in rewriting it.

Surely the school know what they need the extra funds for - THEY should be helping you with the second half..what extra help is needed..is it one to one or small classes, or different environment from mainstream? Or OT or SALT?

I agre in just getting it down. What works, what doesn't, what does he need for it to work (staff levels, equipment etc).

Iys not up to the parents to say the needs and how to meet them - that's what assessment is for.

Book a call with the IPSEA helpline (its free)....they are very very good with helping...can't praise them enough....helped me with my son's EHCP appeal and now we have a very strong and robust EHC plan which I'm really happy about.
