Anyone's dcs doing GCSEs, AS, A levels and fancy a hand-holding thread?

I have two dcs about to start exams. Dd (ASD, dyslexia, mobility problems) is doing GCSEs. She should do well but is stressing herself by wanting to get A* in everything. That isn't impossible (apart from Italian) but I would rather she cut herself some slack and didn't get wound up about it.
Ds (ASD, OCD, dyslexia) is doing A levels. He doesn't actually have any exams until the middle of June so plenty of time to revise but that is not his strong point at all. He finally finished his Computer Science course work at midnight last night - talk of taking it to the wire! He needs at least 3 Bs for university course he wants to do and that is doable so long as he can get some work done and doesn't freak out on the day.

I am expecting a truly stressful 6 weeks.

Anyone else?

Well hopefully he will scrape a pass as the stress of resits doesn't bear thinking about....
Good luck to your dd too Smile

HairyBigSpider · 26/05/2016 11:47

He says it wasn't too bad and thinks he's done enough for a C so that's good. At least there's nothing now until after half term so we can relax a bit now.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 26/05/2016 14:22

Oh that sounds good. Dd isn't home yet as they are in school full time until the 10th June.

Dd thought it was quite good too but anticipates a difficult calculator one to make up. Ever the optimist, my dd.

HairyBigSpider · 26/05/2016 16:35

Funnily enough ds says that the calculator test will be hard too Confused

NoHaudinMaWheest · 06/06/2016 10:33

Back to the exams today. Dd has history and says she almost wishes she hadn't had half term as she was getting used to the stress but now feels as bad as she did for the first one.

Hope History goes ok NH.

Ds has his last on Wednesday (Maths/Mechanics).

NoHaudinMaWheest · 06/06/2016 16:23

Good luck to ds for Wed Streaky

Dd says history was ok on the whole. She got the topics she was confident on at least.

That sounds promising Smile. Thanks for good luck wishes. What will be will be.

Ineedmorepatience · 06/06/2016 17:33

Late coming to this but good luck to everyone.

moose the school we took Dd3 out of did proper full on exams from yr 7 too. They made such a big thing about them and when I said they were stressing her out they said "Oh but she can go in a small room and do them!" Like a, that was the answer and b, why hadnt they told her! Grrrrr.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 07/06/2016 09:22

English Lang this morning. She is hoping for a controversial topic she can get her teeth into. EU referendum would be ideal!

QueenStreaky · 07/06/2016 10:38

I'm impressed! Hope she gets the kind of questions that play to her strengths. Good for her Star.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 07/06/2016 20:40

Thanks streaky. There was one nasty question but also one more or less identical to a mock question so she was all prepared. She is relieved that is out of the way as English really isn't her thing.
(and she is very miffed that she can't vote in the referendum)

Good luck to ds for tomorrow.

Ds was the same for English, really anxious about it. Creative writing and writing about himself were really, really hard - still are actually. But he got some questions that were slight variations of things he'd practised loads so he raced through it. I think that was the pass we were most proud of Smile.

Thanks for good luck wishes. I'll pass it on.

Heavy week this week although no exams today.
During biology on Friday there was a rap performance going on in the PE hall next to the room where those with additional requirements take their exams. Dd said it was very noisy and distracting and too hot to close the doors although that didn't make much difference anyway.
I am going to check with the exams officer that the distraction was noted to the exam board but feel that it was bad organisation on the school's part especially as dd says the main hall was free at the time.

Blimey, that's pretty poor! Usually schools are VERY careful about noise levels at exam season - what a daft time to do a musical performance Shock. Glad you're getting it noted.

Ds has finished exams now, although I think he's doing some mocks for the IB set he's in (temporarily). And he tells me nowt, so who knows for sure Confused.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 13/06/2016 13:53

I emaled but didn't get an answer to whether or not it was noted. I also got dd is very fortunate to have adjustments and being in that room usually advantages students there!

I emailed back pointing out that the adjustments were to give level playing field and not any sort of privilege. Haven't had an answer yet but will take it further if it isn't adequate.

Just thought I would come back to this to say ds got his results today. He got As in maths and computer science and a C in physics. He has been accepted by his chosen university.
Chinese tonight to celebrate and then we have to face the reality of his leaving home. Gulp.

Hope others' results were what they wanted/needed and fingers crossed for GCSEs next week.

GCSE results today.
Dd did really well. Can I boast a bit?
She got 8 As, 2 As, B in Italian, A* in further maths and had the best results in her school. Easily enough for the maths school.

I am really proud of her - she has worked hard and overcome lots of difficulties.

Good luck to everyone else getting results today.

Wow - fabulous results for your dc nohaudin
Ds could only take 6 exams at his school but got 4 B's and 2 C's so doesn't need to do any retakes Grin He had only 2 hours sleep last night so I will be feeling it later Hmm
