Feel completely devastated by something the SENCo said

I have just had a meeting with the SENCO at school.
She is new and has just seen my DD for the first time, spoken to class teacher, TA etc.

She said that both the class teacher and TA told her independently that her speech and language deteriorates over the holiday and it takes her about 2 weeks to regain what she has lost.

I feel awful. We talk with her. We don't (think) we talk down to her. I am at a loss and feel completely devastated and embarrassed. We often feel over the holidays that we see a jump forward in her communication. She is more chatty, her sense of humour shows through.

I don't know what to say or think or what to do.

Imsont see why "we see a jump in DD communication during holidays when other stresses are removed - o wonder if her taking time to settle in is her working, out how to interstate her new skills into school" isn't a suitable suggestion.

They would then a) have to consider it or b) have to say that they don't agree and believe it's you as parents at fault. (Which only serves you well as an argument for more saalt at transfer).

Personally k suspect it's transitioning back into school. It's generally accepted that nearly all children react this way after a holiday. My friend is a teacher and says the same -'and it's not just children with Sen.

I find as a teacher that all children 'deteriorate' after a holiday in all sorts of ways- some with behaviour, some with an ability to listen for extended periods, some with reading/ spelling/ speed of work etc.
I always put it down to the upheaval that there is for any child after a couple of weeks with parents/ friends and then thrown back in the deep end with 30 other children and a very structured day.
Don't make excuses for yourself OP, ask them why they think her language is less developed after a break?
