What diagnostic tool was used to dx your child with asd?

Now I am not doubting for one minute that dd has asd and was offically dx this year.
The one thing I am a bit peed off with is that no tool was used and it was based on observations and past history etc.
Would I be deemed a PITA if I ask Camhs to do an Ados. I would just be relaly interested to find out what areas she struggles in, does well in etc. Not that I don't know but would be good to have it down in paper iykwim!

Well i dont have a good opinion of the ADOS tbh.

Is your dd High Functioning BH?

If so then i would advise against it because DS had the ADOS and passed it with flying colours and they wouldnt dx him because of it, that was nearly a year ago mind and they have now dx,d him with ASD.

But others could well know more about it than i do.

Hmm would be careful I went to a meeting recently where a clinician was complaining about children who don;t quite tick all the boxes of diagnostic tools so she can't dx them (although she knew that meant they would get no help).

I'm not sure they used a tool with ds1- although he meets all the criteria foor DSM-IV so maybe they did use that.

With ds3 it was I think DSM-1V and also think we had an ADI.

Is ADOS the video one? We had that with ds4 and I found it very useful however as you know we are not currently pursuing dx although I have got the report somewhere. This would have been followed up by ADI. I could dig out my ADOS reort and let you know what they did if that's any help.

BTW Have sent you a CAT

I'm afraid I don't know! It was very heavily questionnaire-based - I think it took me three 2-hour sessions to go through all the questions with the paed. He was also observed at nursery by paed and by clinical psychologist.

A different route is going to be used for DS3 which I think is because he has more obvious social communication difficulties ie treats other human beings as if they were wardrobes or something .

I don't think the Paeds used any particular tool with ds1 or ds2. They just went by everone's assessments and observations IIRC. The OT did a specific questionnaire about sensory issues which I found really helpful but I don't know what it was called.

DS2 was dx using the DISCO - a three hour interview with me but very little direct observation of DS. Our paed was training in its use so when she took it for analysis the dx was confirmed by Lorna Wing! Always a strange source of pride to me, that one...
It did mean we have never questioned it
