EHCP for over 18 - budgeting etc

Still trying to make sense of my ds ehcp. Under 'Independence and community involvement' should there be reference to ability to prepare food, budgeting, doing washing etc? This is educational/training need and so there should be provision? Lets face it many NT YP his age will struggle with that sort of thing, I don't think he's any different in that respect apart from trying to make me do everything for him (i.e. not that he can't but won't unless Im not there and then can)- probably could if pushed. As we've been agreed an academic placement, would it b necessary to put this in - would it be ok to do it at later date i.e. after the next stage academic bit has been accomplished? thanks for reading this far if you did!

OK, I think you may benefit from talking to an independent supporter, if skills are lacking in this area I would expect something to be written in, what kind of educational provision has been agreed, is it full-time? Is there scope for adding what you want to add?

Our DS' does include stuff like preparing and cooking basic meals, travelling independently. We are still in the draft stage too and DS is younger than yours.

enterthedragon thank you. We have agreed full time academic placement i.e. not specialist so hoping to add in extra provision.
If you don't mind my asking - so is the school providing help with life skills, or is it at home?
Do you have an IS? I am not sure how independent they really are.

According to the draft EHCP life skills are to be part of his weekly curriculum, some of the things in the draft do apply for home too. I am making use of the IS service, so far she has been a mine of information, she is backing me up, and she appears to be totally independent but they do the necessary training at the same time as the LA (and has provided me with some really useful nuggets of information).

Ah well, thanks for the info, good that she is helpful. Ive tried to get in touch but not had a response yet, might try ringing them see where it leads, would be nice to have someone, though a bit late now as we're hopefully nearing the end. ( How many times have I said that though!)

Your LA should have provided you with the IS information before the process started, so that you could have had support every step of the way.
