on christmas day mil compared dd to her ggrandaughter who is 5. I objected as dd is 11, I know dd is delayed and young for her age. but found the comment really thoughtless. had to excuse mil as she is 81 on sunday and didn't mean to be hurtful.
But I find this hard. I mean I know why people make these comments and in away I sort of understand but I get eally annoyed.
(sorry post is as confused as I feel)

It is very hard 2shoes and I am always pulling my own mum up about things she says that are a bit insensitive.
I am so sensitive when it comes to dd and my guard goes up instantly.
I know this is going to sound a cliche but the older generation find it so much harder to understand disability and I guess it's because they came from a time when disabilities were shut away iykwim

What did she say eacatly?

Thing is - like you say, she's 81 and she didn't mean to be hurtful. I think you needs to let her off and not let yourslef feel too upset, different generation and all that.

Oh mate Course you feel sad for her when these things happen, you feel protective and want to bite off the head of anyone who crosses a line. We all totally understand that and sympathise, xxx
