is it possible to move to Australia with additional needs child

Hi there,
Just that really, I understand the Australian government relaxed the rules a bit for those with disabilities in 2012. Is it all talk or has anyone with a child with additional needs been accepted for permanent resident?
Just wondering whether it's likely to remain a dream to move 😯

Its funny, I was only watching the BBC programme this morning on families who wanted to move to Australia

The programme was a follow up on a family with a disabled child first filmed in 2014 and they successfully applied and were granted visas

The child had a major heart condition and will probably need a transplant at some point, mum was a midwife and dad a pharmacy tech

I think it would depend on the disability. Fortunately we had our three with additional needs while permanent residents here in Oz. I don't think that we would be successful if we were to try now. They are unlikely to become independent in the future.

The only cases that I know of have been in the media and involved temporary residents converting to permanent when they are already here.

I do know someone from the UK who is a temp resident and they have a child with a Down Syndrome. I think that they are attempting permanent residency but have no idea how far along they are in the process but I know that it's not been easy.

It's probably also worth exploring the cost of health care when in Australia. I'm Australian, been in the UK for 13 years. Depending on what you earn, you are compelled to have private health insurance (or face tax penalties otherwise). As the dc are entitled to Australian citizenship, and our plan is to return home at some point, I've started scoping out private health insurance costs. Also the cost of therapies. I've not done much research into it, but it would certainly be a factor to consider if you do move. Iirc, becoming a resident is harder, and if you're a temp resident you know have to pay for your child's education. Happy to be corrected on that point, but I've considered that with my 4dcs, one with ASD and the other hyper mobility, it would be an added financial burden if we relocated from the UK.
