Well something good has come of it.

A long family friend phoned up DH today and asked could he call round.

When he came he immediately told us that he and his wife had watched the film together the other night and that they were astounded as to how much goes into parenting a child with ASD.

He said "what can we do to help, anything at all"

I got all tearful.

He asked us to think about it and if we come up with anything to tell him or his wife.

I couldnt think of anything today, they cant really give us any respite, although i think that Ds would go to their house as he really likes their 2 older sons, they are very patient with him , but i dont want to rock the boat with DS as he hardly goes out at the moment, his anxiety levels are sky high cos he knows the tutors are coming back next week and he,s back to doing his OCD, anxiety, soiling

But, i just thought, wow if it makes people sit up and think like it has done our friend then surely the film has acheived something.

Good to hear that After Thomas has resulted in something good. And even better that they didn't say to you - Get a Dog!

I finally watched it last night.certainly quite realistic in parts, kid was quite convincing, think it was quite rushed development though which may affect how people view 'curing' Autism IYSWIM

Ha Ha, my neighbour just asked me when we are getting ds a dog. Am I the first? Do I get a prize? .

It may have helped me. Took ds1 to buy shoes on Sunday (with my direct payments helper!). He recreated the scene from the film, and then some. Another couple were there buying shoes for their young son. The mother avoided looking at me, but the father gave some very supportive looks and smiles. I did wonder whether he had seen the film as he was being so understanding (rather than tut tutting).
