Can anyone advise me on bathroom adaptations?

We need our bathroom done in 2016 but I'd like to get advice or specialist help about how to make adaptations for DD who has cerebral palsy. Has anyone had help with this? Would it be OT or can the council help in any way (we're homeowners not council tenants though?)

Just a bit and don't know where to start so any advice appreciated!

Your local council will fund up to £30000 adaptations based on your child's assessed needs, through a Disabled Facilities Grant. Parents are not means tested for adaptations for a child with a disability.

In my area there is an adaptations team within the disabled child social services department. They liaise with occupational therapists, building surveyors, etc and provide equipment, including profiling beds, closomat toilets, ceiling tracking, hoists, etc.

Our Occupational Therapist has provided us with some adaptations. The equipment they have loaned us came from a company called NRS Healthcare. So I went online and have also bought some stuff privately from NRS Healthcare as well, such as a handrail for next to the from door, a half-step for the front door, handrails for the staircase and a bath step. Get a referral to OT from your physio, GP or paed - they are worth their weight in gold, or have been for us. Good luck OP.

We have had OT in the past but they discharged us so will need to ask GP or paed for another referral. Would be worth thinking about a few other areas of the house where we could potentially make life easier for her too.
