Hi all, it's been a long time since on the site and i hope everyone is okay??? Really busy with work, family and study!!!

Anyway, dylan has been having real problems with sleep for the past 4 or 5 months and i cant remember the last time he actually had more than 4 hours sleep in one night!!

Sl last week at his assessment, the pead reccommended melatonin in fast release liquid form as slow release is in tablet form, so too big for dylan to take as only 4, and we pick it up today as had to be specially ordered from chemist as dont stock it.

Just need some good feed back if possible to see how other people whose children take it cope or note cope {hoping not the latter!!)

Thanx in advance for much needed info.

PS, will deffo be around again!!!!

xx

Good to see you back, butty.

Ds2 takes melatonin and it works well for him. The best kind was the one that you could dissolve in a little water and then hide in a drink. Atm we have one that you hide in food.

If everything is reasonably calm then ds2 will fall asleep about 20-30 mins later. If he's still hyper then it doesn't work. It doesn't keep him asleep but even those few hours until he wakes up are a sanity saver.

Good luck!

Expect him to go to sleep!!! We tried it at first during the small hours when DS used to wake and it didn't work. I thought we were just unlucky but then he stopped settling down in the evenings so I tried it before bedtime and it worked like magic much to my surprise. I never saw any ill effects (as its not medication) but we don't use it now. Like all things, after a while you could try without it to check its still needed but I don't think there are any problems with it being taken long term. The dose will need to increase with growth/weight. Good luck.
