Any tips for helping DS calm himself down at noisy school lunch ?

Hi, DS has just started primary school & finds lunchtime terrifying ( we are waiting for assessment for ASD). As I cannot be there to help him, I wondered if anyone had any tips on how I can get school to help him deal with this. The bells are a problem, as are the bigger, noisy kids coming in. I have asked if he can sit somewhere a bit quieter. I feel a bit helpless, as to what to do... Any tips ? I wondered about volunteering to go in a few lunchtimes, but don't know if this would hinder his progress or confuse him, when I wasn't there (if that makes sense).

My son had this issue for a while.
He was allowed to eat with a TA in a quiet room, he could even bring a friend with him. Maybe ear defenders would help your son.

Thanks, for advise. I will suggest that to his teacher.

I have known children eat with a friend and a staff member in a different room (normally classroom)

I have known others go into the hall a bit earlier so they can be out before it gets really noisy, or wear ear defenders in the hall.
