Sorry. REPULSIVE AND INFLAMMATORY LANGUAGE ALERT.

It relates to the charmless UKIP councillor who described plans to open a branch of a special school as relating to a "new school which is going to be for retards". He's now rapidly backtracking, no doubt after being kicked up the backside by party bosses, and describing it as an unfortunate choice of words. Because of course people are always having slips of the tongue and choosing that word to describe children with learning difficulties, just one of those things, could happen to anyone, nothing to look at here.

I have already signed this petition and would ancourage as many people as possible to sign it. I have also emailed this excuse for a public official directly, as follows:

Dear Mr Farrer,

I am the mother of a child with special needs and am shocked and appalled at your recent use of the word "retards" to describe people with special needs. I know you have apologised but I am afraid that an apology just does not wash. How is this disablist, outdated, offensive word in your vocabulary at all? Where have you been for the past thirty years? As a public official this is completely unacceptable and you should be resigning (and taking time to educate yourself and do a bit of thinking for a change).
