Who pays ridiculous prices for Special Needs Clothing ?

This is for anyone with a child over 3 with special needs e.g. still needing nappies and/or being peg fed. In the next few months you will be able to buy vests, sleep suits/body suits, with popper openings, at a very reasonable price. I am the grandma of a beautiful special needs boy and I am appalled at the cost of specialist catalogue clothing such as the above when a child reaches three. After approaching a High Street store, they have agreed to manufacture and sell these items for children upwards of 3. My grandson is trying out samples at the moment along with other older children.They will be available to buy later this year. Hoping this will be good news to all you parents/carers, and will help make life a little easier (and cheaper) LOL

Don't want to say which store at the moment because I may jeopardise the project. Suffice to say it is a household name and they are known for their quality goods. When I get the go ahead to tell people I will be back on here.

I did post in April about this and am just trying to keep everyone up to date. It has taken until now to have the items designed and manufactured. Also as I said we are just at the trialling of the samples stage and it should be all up and running this year. The company do not want to make any mistakes and are doing all they can to make sure they get it right.

It's great to know things are still on track.

I have always altered my daughters jackets and coats. I cut them up the back, bind the raw edges and add velcro so I can get them on and off easier while she is in her wheelchair. It takes about half an hour to do and I got the idea after someone I know purchased a cheap and nasty looking addapted anarak from a specialist store for an eye watering eighty pounds! There is definately a gap in the market.

I'd certainly love to see some affordable popper-vests for mini-pirate. He wears them at night to stop him fiddling with his nappy and it's cost me £100 for 3 of them.

It really shouldn't be that we have no option but to alter things to make them suitable for our children (grandchildren) and also that the adapted specialist items are so nasty and outrageously expensive. Hopeful that once these new items are available the store may consider adding to the collection. As you say there is definitely a gap in the market. Thank you for your comments.

Thank you for the last two posts/comments. I have now given feedback with regards to trial samples which are very good but just need a little tweaking They are very well made and will be great for use day time or when child is asleep in bed. Long sleeves and short sleeves so good for all seasons. Looking forward to being able to tell you when they will be available, but worth waiting until they get it absolutely right. !!
