just nicked this thread of chat as was going to post on there and realised how differnt dd's musical tastes are to most 11 year olds.
she still like the "childrens music" like head shoulders, LOVE Gareth gates and she loves things like leader of the Pack.......when I sing along badly to it.

So what do yours listen is it the things dc's of their age normally listen to???

Ds1 loves listening to Classic FM just before he goes to sleep. He doesn't get it from me though.

Ds2 isn't really interested in music and singing but will make an exception if it's either something from the Backyardigans or from Lazytown.

So do you have to do the revving noises when you sing Leader of the Pack?

Songs from the shows for DS2. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Mary Poppins current favourites. Loves songs with actions and numbers - preferably both!

my kids love Dick van Dyke too! I reckon trying to get yor tongue round Chitty lyrics are equivalent to a session of speech therapy!

Ds2 (and NT Ds1) love Queen especially the songs written by Freddie Mercury, "Crazy little thing", "Seaside Rendezvous", etc. Ds2 also likes "It's raining men" by the Weather Girls. He sings his own version of it where the words are quite unclear except for the bit when it says "get myself absolutely soaking wet" then it comes out really clearly. Probably because he has spent half his life being told he is soaking wet for one reason or another .

The children don't like everything we listen to but they tend to like some things we listen to because that's what they hear.

ds1 like the theme tune to Dawson's creek! I used to sing it to him as a baby He also likes HI 5. Ds2 likes You're Beautiful by James Blunt, and ds3 likes incey wincey spider.....

Jimjams2 · 22/11/2006 21:39

oh ds1 likes row row row your boat and round and round the garden as well, ds3 for some reason hates both.

TeeCee · 22/11/2006 21:45

DD1 seems to like drum & bass!

MegaLegs · 22/11/2006 21:48

DS4 still quite little (17 months) but I've noticed himm jiggling to music, usually Radio 2 a little bit recently. He turns towards the tv if he hears the Pocoyo theme and claps his little hands. Also likes his tambourine.

Green Day "american idiot" gets DS off to sleep in teh car when hes having a paddy in his car seat. not exactly a lullaby...

KarenThirl · 23/11/2006 14:45

Well, I never ever thought I'd get sick of hearing David Bowie's Suffragette City, but since J got obsessed with it... EVERY single time we get in the car, every time he gets home from school, over and over again while jumping on the bed.

Also listens to Lenny Kravitz, Scissor Sisters, White Stripes and Raconteurs. Absolutely will not tolerate any kind of kiddie music whatsoever.

Also likes the soundtrack for Harry Potter computer games, likes to have them on in the background while we eat.

Funny little devil, that son of mine.

Has anyone else bought that children's album put together by Belle and Sebastian? Its v good - one track disturbs me a bit though. The slow, gravelly voiced dog dying one (!) Puccio and the Latin Soul Brothers is our dd's fave. However she did smile and laugh loads at the frog chorus so her taste is quite varied and indiscriminate!

DS (3) likes Salif Keita, Norah Jones, Coldplay and Keane. He's only just starting to speak, but will attempt to sing along to all his favourites ("no-boty say i-wo eah-ssie, no-boty say i-wubby sooo haaaaa...") Hilarious.

He's also got a tape that "belongs" in the car, but I've been able to nip this in the bud I think - I turn his tape off, put the radio on, ignore his screams, and only when he's been quiet for a while does his tape come back on. I think it's working...

I initially opened this thread because I thought this was about music especially for SN children - I once read about a CD with children's songs that are slower versions to enable kids with speech problems to sing along to them - anybody know what it's called?
